Jameela Jamil faces backlash after partly attributing clear skin to ‘privilege’

She included ‘supporting trans rights’ and regular exfoliation as other reasons for her clear skin

English actress Jameela Jamil faced backlash after claiming that the key to her clear skin was ‘privilege,’ ‘supporting trans rights’ and ‘exfoliating’ regularly. Her response to a user’s compliment was perceived as ‘annoying’ and ‘condescending.’

Jamil shared a makeup-free selfie on instagram, under which a user commented “Your skin is so perfect.” The actress provided the user with a lengthy response, citing the aforementioned reasons as the secret behind her clear skin, and shared a screenshot of the exchange to her story, reminding people to not compare their skin with that of those with ‘privilege.’

A number of users took issue with her reaction, claiming that she used the opportunity to ‘brag about her privilege,’ and that her statements came across as ‘condescending’ and ‘annoying.’

This is not the first time that Jamil has been involved in controversies. In February 2020, the actress faced issues regarding her casting as MC in the HBO show ‘Legendary’ after coming out as ‘queer,’ and has been accused of suffering with Munchausen’s Syndrome.
