Chinese CDC’s Top Expert: Vaccines ready in November

Wu Guizhen, the Chinese CDC’s chief biosafety expert, recently announced the pleasing progress of Chinese vaccine development on the primary state media CCTV. Five out of all the nine vaccine candidates which survived to the final phase are from China, and Wu had volunteered to join one of their experimental teams several weeks ago. According to her recent test report, she felt ‘no localized pain’ after an injection. Until then, with safety guaranteed, some of the vaccines have already been widely used on first-line personnel against COVID, such as medicare staff and soldiers. Thereby she added that though the validity of the vaccine is yet to be rigidly proved, it is rational to have optimistic anticipation seeing the success of the final-phase experiment scheduled to be completed in November followed by an efficient mass production. Aside from technical progress, president Xi also pledged to lavishly share the China-made vaccines to the world if necessary.

On the other hand, there are opposing voices from North America. Dr. Fauci, the top expert of American CDC, cast doubts on this announcement. He pointed out that due to the lack of transparency, what is really happening behind state media propaganda is still difficult to be known. Meanwhile, a recent confusing dispute between Canada National Research Council and Chinese medical company CanSino over the vaccine trial also increased concerns about the quality of vaccines made-in-China.
