Deepika Padukone questioned about possession and use of banned drugs

The probe was part of an Bollywood industry investigation after death of star Sushant Singh Rajput

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone was questioned by the Narcotics Agency of India on Saturday, after the interception of her phone messages regarding the possession of banned drugs. Padukone was among three stars questioned by the agency on the same day.

The actress, who has starred in over 30 movies, received a summons on Wednesday while shooting a movie at a beach resort in Goa. She was questioned for several hours at the Narcotics Control Board’s office at Mumbai. Padukone’s manager, Karishma Prakash, was also questioned on Friday.

Other actresses summoned by the board include Shraddha Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan, and top director Karan Johar has also been accused of hosting a party last year at which banned substances were consumed.

The Bollywood drug investigation was started after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, according to a statement by the Narcotics Agency. Rajput was found dead at his home in Mumbai in June. Investigation into the death is still ongoing. The actor’s former girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty, was arrested earlier this month on suspicion of buying him cannabis — a claim that she denied.
